Karen is vowing to fight on after sacking upheld

MENTAL health workers at North Manchester General Hospital have voted to continue strike action after sacked nurse Karen Reissmann lost her appeal against the decision to dismiss her.
Union rep Ms Reissmann, who has spoken out against NHS cuts, was sacked by Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust in November after talking to the media.
The sacking triggered an indefinite strike by up to 150 mental health workers across Greater Manchester, many based at the mental health unit at Crumpsall’s North Manchester General.
Ms Reissmann has vowed to fight on and revealed that union members had decided to carry on the strike.
The nurse has received unprecedented support from around the country and rallies were held in major UK towns and cities.
Ms Reissmann said: "This is a terrible day for the health service and for the people we care for, but we won’t stop fighting.
"We will take the trust to whatever court it takes to defend the right of free speech. This fight isn’t over today.
"I’m absolutely disgusted with the decision."
A spokesperson from the Trust said: "The Trust’s internal processes regarding Ms Reissmann are now at an end. We now encourage all our staff who have been on strike to return to providing the care and support their patients need."
