Preview: 192 Acousticfest
by David Sue30/ 3/2007
THERE'S always been a strong musical tradition of songs being
inspired by buses but this must surely be the first time we've had
a whole festival dedicated to one.
But then again, that's always been the Mancunian music way, finding
odd romance in the everyday, and they don't get more everyday than
the 192 bus route from Manchester to the Peak District.
The 192 Acousticfest was born when local singer-songwriter Dave
Hulston was inspired to pen his most recent album, all about the
192 bus journey. Venue promoter Tony Hennigan saw the album as the
perfect launchpad for an entire festival.
So the 192 Acousticfest was born, a music festival based at
Levenshulme venue M19 but with its origins and organisation hooked
around the famed Manc bus route.
Hennigan explains: "When Dave told me about his new album I thought
it would be a good idea to build the festival around it. The bus
stops right outside the venue every five minutes and runs until the
early hours of the morning.
"We want to encourage people to leave their cars at home and hop on
the bus. Its free admission to anyone coming in with a 192 bus
ticket or a £3 congestion charge for anyone without!"
The festival will feature 10 acoustic acts from all over the UK and
Ireland, including Blue Thatcher, Dave Dove, Skyline, Adam Kelly,
The Down Trodden String Band, James Robin Hurt, Jason Dunkerly and
That Girl Sue, Avantgardner and Acoustic Ash.
