Pubs are going back to basics
by Angela Kelly23/ 3/2007
CITY centre dining on Sunday now involves plenty of warming
roasts as Manchester's pubs and restaurants go back to traditional
lunches.
At the English Lounge, in High Street, in the Northern Quarter,
they've found that the popularity of Sunday lunches has grown
enormously in the last year and a half.
Manager James Worrall said more and more families are now heading
for places offering roasts and vegs.
At the English Lounge £8.25 will buy you a full lunch of roast
beef, chicken or lamb with vegetables (or poached salmon or a
vegetarian option), with business so brisk booking is vital.
They have about 250 customers each Sunday, with the lunch trade
dying off around 4pm.
Mr Worrall reckons that success is all down to good-value,
wholesome food with efficient service and homely touches like
dishes of vegetables on the sideboard to serve yourself.
"After all, you can't beat a good Sunday roast, can you?" he
insists.
