Preview: Blasted
by Paul R Taylor18/ 1/2007
THE graphic and powerful anti-war play Blasted comes to The Lowry next week.
The late Sarah Kane's first play was lambasted by the critics
when it was first performed in 1995 as a "disgusting feast of
filth" (Daily Mail) but is now considered a classic.
A tabloid journalist's sexual bullying of a young woman is turned
on its head when a soldier bursts into their Leeds hotel
room.
This is a rare chance to see the play, which draws parallels
between war in the Balkans and domestic violence. It contains
nudity, strong language and themes of an adult nature. Most
suitable for those aged 16-plus.
Blasted is In The Studio at The Lowry, on Thursday, January 25, and
Friday, January 26. Tickets £10, £7.50 advance, no concessions.
