A bit about . . .
10/11/2006
STEPHANIE Street, who plays Raziya in Manchester-based theatre company Rasa's production of Too Close To Home at the Library Theatre next week, has appeared on TV in Holby City, Red Cap and 20 Things To Do Before You're 30.
The Cambridge University graduate's who then trained at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), she's appeared on stage in a touring production of The Vagina Monologues. Her play, Sisters, was recently workshoppedat the National Theatre Studio in London.
The first thing I do when I wake up is...
put the alarm on snooze. For at least half an hour, which drives my
boyfriend mad.
Ideally I would spend every day ...
in rehearsals. This is the best job in the world.
If money was no object I would ...
have a house on the beach, somewhere in the Maldives. I'd patent
some ecologically sound method of travel and commute.
The greatest gift I have ever received was
...
My parents bent over backwards to give me the best education
possible. That has to be the best thing I've ever been given.
My first job was ...
I grew up in Singapore and my first-ever job was as a waitress in
Harry's Bar where Nick Leeson used to drink before he brought down
Barings Bank. They named a cocktail in his honour - The Bank
Breaker. It didn't taste very nice.
I'm scared of ...
the damage we're doing to this planet and how so many people are
just ignoring it.
I'm excited by ...
Christmas - I can't help it.
I love ...
my family, my boyfriend, my friends and all food.
I hate...
laziness. Life doesn't owe you anything but there are the most
extraordinary opportunities out there if you look for them.
I want...
to run a marathon one day.
You have to read ...
Lullaby by WH Auden. It's the single, greatest expression of love
ever.
Everyone should listen to ...
the live recording of Ella Fitzgerald singing Mack The Knife where
she forgets the words. It's genius.
You must watch ...
Too Close to Home. I had to say it! Rani has written an incredible
play.
If I could be anyone else I would be ...
a travel writer.
My ultimate ambition would be ...
as an actor and/or a writer to create work that changes the way
people think.
My biggest inspiration has been ...
my mother. She's an absolute tower of strength but is also utterly
full of love.
The first time I fell in love ...
I knew life would never, ever be the same again ...
I think God is ...
disappointed at how so many people use religion as an excuse to
kill each other when what they're really killing for is
money.
I think the death penalty is ...
complete hypocrisy, licensed murder, a totally groundless abuse of
power.
My epitaph would be ...
Lived, loved, left.
Fur or faux?
Faux.
Mayonnaise or salad cream?
Mayonnaise - I
just don't get salad cream.
EastEnders or Coronation Street?
My
grandfather will turn in his grave but I have to say
EastEnders.
Daily Mail or Guardian?
Can I have The
Independent?
Harry or William?
Harry - he just seems more
interesting.
United or City?
Anyone, as long as it's
not Chelsea.
Chav or scally?
Scally any day.
TOO Close To Home, by Rani Moorthy, is a hard-hitting drama about
religious identity. It runs from Tuesday to Saturday at the Library
Theatre. For tickets ring 0161 236 7110 or visit
