A bit about... Kym Mazelle

Conrad Astley
7/ 4/2006

THERE aren't many people who can count Michael, Janet, Latoya and Tito Jackson as their childhood friends, but Kym Mazelle is one of them. Growing up around the corner from the Jacksons in Gary, Indiana, she had music in her blood from an early age. Early attempts at becoming an opera singer ended when she became disillusioned with the form, and she chose gospel as her route to becoming a diva. Her vocal talents were used on early Chicago house hits by Marshall Jefferson, as well as on tracks by Soul II Soul, C+C Music Factory, and David Morales, and in Baz Luhrmann's film version of Romeo And Juliet. She is appearing in I Can't Stop Loving You, a tribute to the music of Ray Charles - another childhood acquaintance - at the Opera House from Wednesday until April 15.

The first thing I do when I wake up is...

thank the Lord for a brand new day, child!

Ideally I would spend every day...

pampering myself, shopping and singing.

If money was no object I would...

build a big house at the seaside and put my close family in it.

The greatest gift I have ever received was...

my Christian faith.

My one piece of advice would be...

don't do it!

My first job was...

a supervisor for kids who clean up trash on the street.

I'm scared of...

nothing, not even spiders!

I'm excited by...

creative ideas, new life and great people.

If I could go back in time and do one thing again it would be...

spend more time with my daughter.

I love...

life.

I hate...

bad-minded people.

I want...

everything to be all right.

You have to read...

the Bible.

Everyone should listen to...

their heart.

You must watch...

Celebrity Fat Club - and your weight.

If I could be anyone else I would be...

Oprah Winfrey.

My ultimate ambition would be...

to get my business manifested in every area.

My biggest inspiration has been...

travelling.

The first time I fell in love...

was like I got hit by a truck.

I think God is...

love.

I think the death penalty is...

wrong.

My epitaph would be...

she really lived.
