Days Out: For singletons, film fans, young lovers and those who just like to get dirty
Conrad Astley9/ 2/2006
THERE'S a chance to see special screenings of films starring
Johnny Depp and Steve Coogan as Britain's first ever mobile film
festival comes to town.
The
Cinemobile is coming to Stockport to kick off
Kinofilm's month-long tour of Greater Manchester.
Organisers boast the mobile cinema looks and feels just like the
real thing, as it comes complete with hi-tech studio equipment and
Dolby surround sound.
It is also heated, air-conditioned, and can hold up to 100 people -
including space for three wheelchairs.
The cinema will be stationed in St Petersgate Car Park, Stockport
Town Centre, this weekend for three days of free family
activities.
This includes animation courtesy of the puppeteers at
Chorlton-based Cosgrove Hall - makers of DangerMouse and Postman
Pat - while there will also be a rare screening of the North West
Film Archive's footage of Stockport from a bygone age.
Many films lasting about an hour will be shown, giving visitors the
chance to see some of the most exciting short films from a new
generation of film makers.
Saturday and Sunday's programme will end with a special showing of
Johnny Depp's fantasy adventure Pirates of the Caribbean.
The festival will also feature a special screening of
Middleton-born comic Steve Coogan's new film A Cock And Bull Story,
starting at 8pm tonight (Friday) at the nearby Plaza Theatre, and
introduced by Cooogan's Manchester production company Baby Cow.
Call the theatre on 477 7779.
Anyone wanting further information about the Kinofilm
festival should contact the Tourist Information Centre at Staircase
House, Market Street, or call 747 4444. The event arrives in the
city later in the month.
THE opportunity to get dirty to help dragonflies is being
offered this weekend.
Volunteers are being asked to help clear pond vegetation to create
some open water and allow the insects to thrive later in the
year.
Anyone who wants to help out should meet at the car park opposite
the Boddington Arms on Racecourse Road in Wilmslow at 1pm on
Sunday.
The event is expected to go on until 3pm. Call Paul Hughes
on 01625 573 998 for more information.
SINGLETONS are invited to head to Harvey Nichols just after
Valentine's Day.
Store bosses say next week's speed dating event, organised by
Xfactor Dates and held at the second floor restaurant, bar and
brasserie, is the perfect way to meet new singles in an exciting
and fun filled evening.
The event, aimed at young professionals aged 23-35, begins with a
series of ice-breaking activities, while members of the Xfactor
team will be on hand to mingle with guests and play cupid to ensure
everyone has a good time.
There will also be plenty of breaks during the evening for you to
grab a drink and mingle with the other guests.
Anyone who wants to go should call 0870 871 7777 or visit
