Soapbox: Sally won't win Mum of the Year
Rachel Broady13/ 1/2006
Rachel Broady takes a look at next week's goings on in Weatherfield, Emmerdale, and Walford.
CORONATION STREET Sally won't be winning Mum of
the Year 2006 having forced Rosie to take the morning after pill as
punishment. The poor goth has to stay off school because she's
genuinely poorly - and Craig takes the chance to see her and take
her to the doctor. Well, he's put her on a pedestal and now he's
put her on the pill.
Dev is being equally wily. Now that Sunita has enjoyed the miracle
of childbirth and is of course weak, the victim of raging hormones
and terrified of the enormous responsibility of motherhood, he
thinks she'll "see sense" and take him back. He's confusing her
with Shelley because Sunita, quite rightly, sends him on his
way.
And Jamie looks set to do the same with Carol, telling her she's no
longer welcome in Weatherfield. Surely that surly, miserable,
alcoholic character isn't welcome anywhere. Ever. Not even in The
Bill.
Jack, meanwhile, is to be the subject of an entire art exhibition.
He and Vera go to an art gallery (the one up t'road from t'factory)
to attend the unveiling of his portrait.
And there's a room dedicated entirely to nudes of her husband. In
fact, we'll all be in trouble. Shudder.
EMMERDALE Alice is told her cancer is aggressive
and has spread but that her son Samson is doing well after being
close to death - so she's inspired to fight too. Cripes, tug at my
heart strings much more, Mr Scriptwriter, and you'll play the theme
tune from Terms of Endearment.
Thankfully Viv provides the laughs by telling a local reporter that
her rabbit is her wedding planner so that he'll write a story. She
tells him the rabbit has chosen the rings, dresses and hairstyles -
but surely once the reporter has seen her clothing and jewellery
collection he'll assume she's had help from the entire cast of
Alice in Wonderland.
EASTENDERS They're still going on about that
dog.
