A bit about... Simon Sharman
Conrad Astley2/12/2005
The first thing I do when I wake up is... check
my email, and ignore any real mail.
Ideally I would spend every day... getting up
early to catch up on any reading before breakfast (which would be
in The Grind, San Francisco - it serves eggs 12 different ways),
then onto a music class (I want to master at least one instrument -
piano or trumpet), long lunch with friends, afternoon nap, an early
evening (Argentine) tango workshop, followed by hitting some night
spots in search of musical talent.
If money was no object I would... have homes in
Buenos Aires and Greece, make more films and set up my own
Investigation Bureau for the Unexplained. Oh yeah, and own my own
night club of course, and one that wouldn't play anything that
comes under the heading `house, funky house, electronic
ambient.'
The greatest gift I have ever received was... my
girlfriend taking me to Venice for my 35th birthday.
My one piece of advice would be... don't ever give
up on your dreams.
My first job was... the pizza delivery guy - it
was the company car that swung it.
I'm scared of... normality.
I'm excited by... arriving in a foreign country
without having booked a hotel, and then wandering the streets in
search of the best local entertainment. You never know who you
might meet or what will happen next. Pure adventure.
If I could go back in time and do one thing again it would
be... my application form for university. I would have
ticked `music' instead of `business studies'. Enough said.
I love... Bill Hicks.
I hate... bad comedians.
I want... to be on Dragon's Den.
You have to read... The Vesuvius Club by Mark
Gatiss.
Everyone should listen to... In a Silent Way by
Miles Davis.
You must watch... For Love or Country with Andy
Garcia. A beautiful film about life, love and music. I've watched
it at least half a dozen times.
If I could be anyone else I would be... that
Canadian bloke off Dragon's Den. Doing 100 business studies degrees
wouldn't come any where near this guy's expertise.
My ultimate ambition would be... to always be
happy with what I am doing, and how I am doing it.
My biggest inspiration has been...
my lady.
The first time I fell in love... I was about nine
years old. She was called Sharon, she was in my class, and every
day at break-time she would play Supergirl to my Superman.
I think God is... still to be found.
I think the death penalty is... in most cases
absolutely abhorrent. Having said that, there are always
exceptions.
My epitaph would be... Don't let `em fool you, TV
isn't that important.
Fur or faux? I should say faux, I suppose.
Mayonnaise or salad cream? They both ruin any food
to the same degree.
Eastenders or Coronation Street? Would have to be
Eastenders. The Street is sheer dross.
Daily Mail or Guardian? The Guardian every time.
Its `moral high ground' is marginally lower than the Mail.
Harry or William? I'm not interested in
either.
United or City? Neither - I'm not really a footy
man.
Chav or scally? Does it matter? They have both
missed the point somewhere along the way...
