Middleton Expats - try our map!

ARE you a former resident of Middleton who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about Middleton.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

Joanne Wild (Connor) here at the Gold Coast, it is a very hot summer here this december and am sooo missing the frosty mornings and the cosying up in front of the fire with hot chocolate! Hi, I lived in Boarshaw as a child and attended Boarshaw primary school, later going on to Moorclose. Started work at Vitaform before getting married and leaving the area. I know live in Australia and have been here for 39 years and have never been back. Would love to hear from family members who I have lost touch with. Name before marrying was Jackie Burgess

Hello Moonrakers. My name is Paddy Carney and I live in the Niagara Peninsula just a few miles from the Falls. I have written before trying to locate people and have had some success. Thanks to all that helped me. I am back trying to locate some more people that I went to school with at Parkfield and Durnford St. does anyone know the whereabouts of Clair Farrer or Jay Yearn I havent heard from them since I left Middleton in 1964 also Bob Whitiker whose brother Geoff used to run the news agents shop in Middleton shopping center and prior to that on Wood St. If anyone would like to contact me with information on them or any other old friends please do so at pat.carney@cogeco.ca Thanks and I hope everyone has a nice day....Paddy

Hi , Long time no chat to anyone from Parish School or Durnford St.I used to live in Kirkway parents had the newsagents, travel agents and post office with sister Gill and Shirley. Left the U.K in 1986 returned in 1994 and now returned to Australia. Living on Gold Coast sure as hell beats the cold winters in the u.k but miss lots of silly things like fish and chips a good game of football and all my friends in Middleton especially Lenny Law he will know who he is.........

Hi to everyone back in sunny Middleton or whever you may be in the world. For anyone that remembers me my name is Steve Parkinson. went to school in Langley, Middleton until 1977, then went to QEGS in Alkrington (now a housing estate). I lived on Grasmere walk, Langley. Knocked about with the likes of Ralph Cutler, Steve Welby, Les Price, Clint Jones. I was known as Sparky at school. My Brothers Barry, John (RIP), David and my sister Helen all grew up in Miggy. Be nice to here from anyone that knew us. I joined the Army from school for 11 years, then worked around the country in the voice and data cabling industry. I sold europes largest cable infrastructure in 1994 at a cost of 5 million quid... shame the commission wasn't so good. I now live in Almeria, Spain. I am a Sales Manager for a Spanish builder, so if you want to escape to the sun... let me know. I have a 4 year old daughter that can't speak English, but her Spanish is fluent... her mom is Spanish of course. About time there was a expat reunion or something... or Langley High School reunion... anyone up for organising it?

Lived on Boarshaw and Alkrington. Went to Boarshaw, Hollin and Moorclose.

Now living in the Netherlands.

Settled here after working in Cairo, Budapest, Argentina, Dallas, San Francisco and Slough!

Designing and engineering radio networks for Siemens.

I miss Middleton (but the old Middleton) and many good friends and mates I grew up with. From reading the Guardian, I have to admit I am glad I dont live there now.

I also miss a Holland's pie, chips and gravy, a pint of Lees's, Oldham Athletic, the 'Old Cock' and a curry from Dirty Lil's!

Left Mid June 08 and have settled at the Gold Coast, we get our bins emptied twice a week (a good reason for coming here!) the sun shines all the time and the people are so laid back and friendly, just looking at the crime that has been happening in Middleton this week has made me glad to not be there. I grew up in Middleton and all my family are there but I have to take my daughter away from it for a better safer life!

hello again everyone !!!! Dave Horrocks , once again back on the comments page, it's been almost a year, but the wife and i have once again planned our trip back over to england..we will be travelling to engalnd on sept 5th, doing a bunch of running around visiting family and friends, all over the place,......... if anyone reads this and knows anyone from boarshaw rd, boarshaw school, moorclose school, i am trying trying to plan a reunion get together this might be the last chance i get after nearly 45 years away from the old place... friday sept 19th, 7-00pm, at the boarshaw hotel , on stannycliffe lane , middleton.. spread the word i can only hope that people can come, you never know who might meet.. try this website friendsreunited, it is magic for memories best regards to everyone, and to everybody at the " middy guardian "
